FAQ's Refrigeration - Fridges And Freezers

What is the standard width of a fridge freezer?

Fridge freezers are available in numerous widths and heights so you are sure to find a model to suit both spacious and small kitchens.

The standard width of a fridge freezer is 600mm – 700mm. However, you can get slimmer versions for compact kitchens and wider fridges up to 1000mm wide that are ideal for large family homes. American fridge freezers are the largest type of domestic fridge freezer.

I have a very small kitchen. What fridge freezer options do I have available?

Compact fridge freezers would be a great option for you. They are a popular choice for installation in a mobile home or small apartment.

The smallest compact fridge freezers start at 470mm. They are available in 470mm – 550mm and 550mm – 600mm widths.

These types of fridge freezers have been engineered to provide the most amount of internal food storage space possible. You should always check the size of the freezer compartment too as the size offering can vary between models. Despite being small, an ice box is a really handy feature to have.

What does 50/50, 60/40 and 70/30 split mean in refrigeration?

This figure refers to the ratio between fridge and freezer compartments. This is something you must consider before choosing a model.

50/50 Fridge Freezer - Half fridge storage and half freezer storage. If you often batch cook and freeze portions for a later date then a 50/50 split is a good refrigeration option.

60/40 Fridge Freezer - 60% fridge and 40% freezer!

70/30 Fridge Freezer - 70% fridge and 30% freezer. Ideal for busy families who are looking for more fridge space but freezing food is not a priority.

Integrated Fridge Freezers

An integrated fridge freezer is designed for those who want a discreet and minimal aesthetic in their kitchen. The appliance is hidden behind a kitchen door fascia so it blends seamlessly with the rest of your kitchen.

Integrated fridge freezers are available in tall and built under models. You can buy combined fridge freezer models or a single freezer and/or fridge.

Free Standing Refrigeration

Alongside our integrated range, we have our selection of free standing fridges, freezers and fridge/freezers.

Free standing means these appliances are able to be placed almost anywhere in your kitchen. The front and sides of the appliance are finished to a presentable standard. White and stainless steel are the most widely available colour options. However, should you wish to add a splash of colour and make a feature of your appliance you'll be pleased to hear certain brands offer a wide array of colour options too.

You can buy both tall, upright free-standing fridge freezers as well as smaller, under-the-counter fridge-freezers.

American Style Fridge Freezers

If you like big, grand and plenty of unique features an American Fridge Freezer could be the perfect choice for you! They're ideal for a large family or just general food fans!

American fridge freezers offer loads of storage space. However, if you opt for a model with a water or ice dispenser just be mindful that it will reduce the amount of internal storage available.

Layouts vary. Many American fridge freezer models provide tall, standard style doors with internal pull out compartments and shelves. However, you'll discover french door opening and freezer drawer options are also available.

All our American style fridge/freezers are frost free and you can expect features such as ice dispensers, cold water dispenser and digital temperature controls as well as auto-defrost modes.
