Inset Sinks Buying Guide

Stainless Steel, Granite and Ceramic Inset Sinks

An inset sink simply sits in a cut out and has a lip or drainer that sits on your work surface. An inset sink is also referred to as a drop in or sit in sink. They are available in many sizes, configuration and material options.

Inset Sink Configuration Options

Whether you opt for a single bowl, double bowl or a bowl and half is down to personal preference. Those planning to use a dishwasher will often opt for a single bowl sink. One and a half bowls and double sink options provide more functionality should you need it.

FAQ - Inset Sinks

Is It Easy To Install An Inset Sink?

Stainless Steel Inset Sink

Inset sinks are suitable for both big and small budgets. Installation is easy and cheaper than an under-mount sink. An inset sink can be installed in solid work surfaces such as granite or wood as well as laminate

Increasing the cut out on a laminate surface is a simple job, however, solid surfaces can be more problematic and may cost considerably more. We would advise speaking to an expert if you are looking to modify the aperture size on a solid worktop as it will be more prone to damage.

Upgrading an old inset sink of the same size is easy as the sink hole has already been cut out for you. This makes an inset sink a really good choice for rental properties where the occasional re-fresh may be required.

Things To Consider Before Replacing An Old Sink

Always remember to measure the width of your kitchen cupboard, below the sink. The bowl has to fit inside this! Take note of the depth of the old sink bowl before removing and ordering a new one.

If replacing an existing sink you must measure the cut out beneath the sink and make sure the replacement inset sink will fit. A minimum 10mm overhang will be required too.

Check the number of sink holes. If you plan to install any tap accessories such as a spray hose or soap dispenser you will need to factor this in.

Stainless Steel Inset Sink

Stainless steel is such a hard-wearing, durable material so it is a brilliantly practical choice for a busy kitchen. All the stainless steel inset sinks in our collection are constructed from high quality 18/10 stainless steel which will not rust or chip.

With minimum maintenance, a stainless steel inset sink will look as good as new for many years. Furthermore, a stainless steel sink will gleam, making your kitchen feel ultra-clean. Over time they will develop a lovely patina, it will just need a clean and buff every few weeks to keep it looking great.

There are so many styles to choose from, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Granite Inset Sink

One of the reasons granite inset kitchen sinks are so popular is the range of colours available. You can achieve the perfect look for your kitchen with a granite composite inset sink in black, grey, white and various shades of sand/cream.

Granite composite inset sink's are also extremely durable and easy to clean with a damp cloth. They are a virtually scratch resistant and highly resistant to staining and fading so they will retain their superior appearance for a lifetime. They can also withstand high temperatures.

Ceramic Inset Sink

Ceramic kitchen sinks are an eye-catching choice for both modern and traditional kitchens. While white remains a popular colour for ceramic sinks, you can also get great-looking ceramic sinks in black, grey and various shades of cream.

Ceramic inset sinks are extremely hard-wearing. They won’t easily scratch so they’re good for a busy family kitchen. Also, the non porous, smooth glazed surface makes them resistant to stains, so they tend to look good for a very long time.

Ceramic sinks are quite unforgiving. If you drop a plate or cup in your sink it is likely to smash and chip your sink! We would advise installing a removable sink mat or wire rack in the bottom of the sink to avoid breakages. Should a ceramic sink chip there are touch up sticks available to buy online.
