Ultimate Homemade Burger - Simple Food, Amazing Flavour!

Posted by Lorraine on 21st Aug 2018

A great quality burger is one of life's simple food pleasures and this recipe will not disappoint. Our Ultimate Homemade Burger is so easy to make yet still tastes amazing, you'll be in food heaven from the first bite!

This recipe is perfect for cooking over the BBQ. It's National Burger Day on the 23rd August, so it is a great time to have a go at making our 'Ultimate Homemade Burger' yourself. Get yourself to your local butchers, pick up some freshly minced beef and put your culinary skills to the test.

Ultimate Homemade Burger

  • Prep time; 10 mins (Plus 30 minutes resting time)
  • Cooking Time; 10 mins
  • Serves: 4

Ingredients;

  • 1 White Onion - Peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 x 500g Steak Mince
  • 1 Tsp Mixed Dried Herbs
  • 1/2 Tsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1 Egg - Beaten
  • 4 x Brioche buns
  • 4 Slices Mature Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Beef Tomato - Thinly sliced
  • 2 Gherkins - Optional
  • Lettuce

Method;

  1. Place a drizzle of olive oil in a non stick pan and gently cook the onion over a low heat for 2-3 minutes. Set aside to cool a little.
  2. Using your hands combine the steak mince, mixed herbs, dijon mustard, cooled onion, egg and a pinch of salt & black pepper. Mix well before shaping into 4 equal sized balls.
  3. Gently flatten into patties about 3cm thick. The burgers should be of equal thickness to ensure they cook evenly.
  4. Pop on a plate, cover with cling film and leave in the fridge to firm up for 30 mins or so.
  5. Cook the burgers on a preheated barbecue, griddle or grill for 5-6 minutes on each side.
  6. Towards the end of grilling lay a slice of cheese on top of the burger & cook until starting to melt.
  7. Slice the buns in two, you may wish to grill the inside of the buns slightly, if so, do this now.
  8. Add the burger to the bun, layer with tomato, lettuce, gherkins and sauce.
  9. Enjoy!

Author Tips;

Sauce choice is, of course, down to personal taste. We LOVE to add Beaver Brand, Coney Island Hot Dog Mustard to the burger, it’s seriously tasty and makes an already tasty burger even tastier.

It's great on its own and even better served with a stack of homemade chips! We hope you love it as much as we do.
