Pizza Dough Recipe

Servings: 6-8 Medium Pizzas

Prep Time : 1 hr 15 Mins (Includes 1 hr proving)


  • 1kg strong white bread flour or Tipo '00' flour
  • 1 Tsp salt
  • 2 x 7g Dried yeast sachets *
  • 1 Tbsp Golden caster sugar
  • 4 Tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
  • 650ml Lukewarm water *


  1. Sieve the flour and salt. Place on a clean work surface and make a well in the centre.
  2. Mix the yeast, sugar, oil and water in a jug. Leave for two minutes and check the sugar has dissolved before pouring into the well.
  3. Use a fork to gradually blend the flour into the liquid from the sides. Continue until the dough starts to combine then combine the last of the flour with your clean, floured hands.
  4. Continue to knead until the dough is smooth and springy, roll into a ball.
  5. Dust a large bowl with flour, place the dough in the middle, dust with flour and cover with a damp, clean tea towel and place in a warm space for around an hr. The dough will double in size.
  6. Flour a clean work surface, continue to knead to push out the air with your hands. If planning to user later, wrap the dough in cling film and place in the fridge uniil ready to use.
  7. Divide into 6 or 8 pieces (this depends how big you want your pizzas) and roll into small balls.
  8. Roll to about 0.5mm thick.

Author Tips.

We've tried this recipe using IPA beer! To do this you just need to make a few small adjustments to the recipe above. Use 1 sachet of dried yeast (not 2) Reduce lukewarm water to 320ml and add 330ml American IPA such as the 'Roll With It' Pale Ale from Vocation Brewery.

Italian Tipo '00' flour is the best flour to use for dough making. It can be found in Italian delis and many supermarkets. It's fine texture creates lovely smooth textured dough.
