I’m sure many of you get excited this time of year when the big coffee chains bring back their festive flavours, I agree, they are delicious but they’re also expensive. This year we’ve decided to create a batch of homemade syrups meaning we can enjoy festive flavoured coffees from the comfort of our home. Why not have a go at making our Cinnamon & Ginger Syrup, Hazelnut Syrup & Vanilla Syrup for yourselves. Tis the season to be jolly and we’re confident you’ll be feeling extra jolly once you’ve given them a try. Our homemade syrups will save you money too so you can splash out on some extra special chocolates or biscuits to go alongside the coffee, better still, why not have a go at making our delicious nutty christmas puds and serve them alongside your festive coffee.
Most syrups will keep for around a month but if placing in a sterilised jar they will last for a few months at least. Heating the water helps the sugar to dissolve and allows the spices and flavours to infuse plus, the process will also prolong the shelf life of your syrup as heating helps to get rid of any bacteria. They’re super simple to make so quick, grab your pans, sugar and spices and let the flavoured syrup making commence.
Place your glass jars or bottles into hot soapy water and rinse well. Place on a baking tray and pop in a oven on a low heat for approx 10 minutes, remove once completely dry. Remember to remove any rubber seals before placing in the oven. Rubber seals can be sterilised by covering in boiled water. Any equipment such as funnels or ladles will need to be sterilised before use too.
Happy Flavoured Syrup Making Everyone!
